(CQNEWS) Chongqing has developed the optical fiber sensor with domestic advanced level of China recently, said Chongqing Science and Technology Commission yesterday. The sensor can at one time measure the parameters of temperature, strain, refractive index and so on.

The sensor can resist the electromagnetic interference and atomic radiation, and work in extreme environment. It is used to monitor the safety of buildings and bridges, and it is also the best device to monitor the earthquake at present.

The sensor can be embedded into the deep earth where the temperature reaches 250 degree centigrade. By long-distance telemetry, scientists can measure the seismic wave, internal stress of plate and dynamic changes of plate. The optical fiber sensors network built in the seismic belt can monitor the abnormal underground situations in time and forecast the potential earthquake.
