Chongqing railway stations closed for rainstorms
07-18-2007

(CQNEWS) Rainstorms lashing Chongqing Municipality for more than 24 hours triggered landslides and mud-rock flows in at least 6 places along main railways of the city, according to a report by a local medium today.

The city's two railway stations had to be closed for several hours yesterday morning and resumed for passengers late in the afternoon.

It is reported that some 30,000 passengers for 32 trains had been delayed by the bad weather yesterday.

Chongqing received 266.6 millimeters of rainfalls from Monday night to Tuesday afternoon, the largest volume since meteorological records began in 1892. The downpours have affected 2.7235 million people in 22 districts and counties, and caused a direct economic loss of 863 million yuan RMB.
