On May 14, Yan Peng was rescued by the fire department soldiers from Chongqing. On the rescue site of Beichuan Middle School, after having struggled for several hours and finally removed the ruins of a two-storey building, Chongqing fire department rescued Yan Peng, a student from Class Nine, Grade One of Beichuan Middle School, who had been buried for over 40 hours.

 

When the earthquake hit Wenchuan on May 12, Yan Peng was thrown out of the classroom. But he returned to the classroom to save his classmates trapped in the building. When he stepped into the classroom, the building collapsed suddenly. Yan Peng, who was only 17, was buried in the ruins.
