The first quarter of this year saw a remarkable progress in Chongqing industry��s investment attraction. The city attracted a total of RMB 6 billion domestic and foreign investment, a YOY growth of 50 %, including RMB 4.96 billion domestic investment of the industry, a YOY growth of 98% and RMB 700 million was foreign investment. 444 industrial projects were introduced, 431 of which used domestic investment and 13 projects used foreign investment.

In 2008, breakthroughs have been made in the major projects of industry investment attraction promoted by Chongqing Economic Commission. In terms of automotive and motorcycle industries, the project of Ford��s third factory went on well, which is very possible to locate in Chongqing. The automobile parts manufacture project of Wanxiang Group will commence the construction recently. In terms of equipment manufacture industry, in the very near future, significant progress will be achieved in the projects of wind power bearing, heavy-duty forging and pressing of CSIC, sheet project of Zhejiang Longsheng Co., Ltd. In terms of petroleum, natural gas and chemicals, progress has been made in the MDI integrated project of BASF of Germany, the caprolactam project of Honeywell of US. In terms of material industry, the polycrystalline project of Jiangsu Daqo Group has commenced the construction and will be completed and put into production in June. The Fuyao Co., Ltd has signed the contract on the float glass project and new achievement will be made in the second quarter of this year. The project of 10 million tons new dry-process cement of Anhui Conch Cement Co., Ltd will commence construction recently.

In 2008, the industry displayed a new trend to attract foreign investment. In respect of total domestic and foreign investment, Wanzhou District topped No. 1 in Chongqing, following by Jiangbei District and Changshou District, which indicated that foreign investment in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area was increasing. In terms of the use of domestic investment of the industry, besides the notable growth rate, the scale of the project was largely expanded. The industries of the districts and counties in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area have powerful momentum to attract domestic investment, especially in Wanzhou District, Changshou District, Fuling District and Kaixian County. And the domestic investment of the industry far exceeds the districts and counties of the city proper both in the number of projects and the total amount of investment. In terms of the source of domestic investment, although most of them were from Guangdong, Shanghai, Beijing and other developed areas of eastern China, the total investment from the central and western as well as the other regions were raising. In terms of the use of foreign investment in the industry, the total investment of the projects quadrupled over the same period, but the number of the projects decreased by 2. It showed that the investment of individual project and the number of large projects were increasing.
