Aftermath of the May 12 Earthquake, Chongqing (by 12:00, May 14)

The disaster affected 32 districts and counties of Chongqing by 12:00, May 14, including Liangping, Jiangjin, Wanzhou, Fengdu, Hechuan, Tongnan, Kaixian, Shizhu, Yunyang, Rongchang, Yongchuan, Nanchuan, Banan, Qijiang, Fengjie, Dazu, Zhongxian, Tongliang and Fulin. Liangping, Jiangjin, Hechuan and Rongchang reported serious damage. Preliminary statistics reported 14 deaths in Chongqing (6 in Liangping, 1 in Jiangjin, 3 in Hechuan, 1 in Chengkou, 1 in Kaixian, 1 in Qijiang and 1 in Banan), 166,700 people evacuated in emergency, and 637 injuries, in which 43 are serious. 3,975 buildings collapsed while 14,005 buildings are endangered.

The death toll increased from the previous 11 to 14 by 3: one resident from Liangshan Town of Liangping County who died from tumbling when escaping the earthquake, Feng Chaomei, a 83-year old resident from Xuekuta Street, Dongjintuo, Nanbanchu, Hechuan District, who died from falling parapet, and Tang Guoyou, a village woman in Group 3, Yulong Village, Caojie Town who died from falling rocks.
