I. Current Month
1. 45 new foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) were registered in Chongqing in May 2009, representing a y-o-y decrease of 17%, including 8 corporate enterprises (1 Sino-foreign equity joint ventures (EJV) and 7 wholly foreign-owned enterprises (WHOFEs)) with a total investment of USD 71.4 million and a total registered capital of USD 41.94 million, 34 branches of newly registered EJVs, CJVs and WHOFEs and 3 resident representative offices.
2. 164 FIEs registered for alteration and 3 FIEs increased registered capital. The net registered capital increased was USD 68.66 million.
3. 12 branches of FIEs were deregistered and 2 disqualified FIEs were re-registered as domestic enterprises.
II. Current Year
1. 217 new FIEs were registered in Chongqing from January to May 2009, representing a y-o-y decrease of 8%, including 42 corporate enterprises (15 EJVs, 25 WHOFEs and 2 CJVs) with a total investment of USD 1,124 million and a total registered capital of USD 487 million, 165 branches of newly registered EJVs, CJVs and WHOFEs and 10 resident representative offices.
2. 676 FIEs registered for alteration and 23 FIEs increased registered capital. The net registered capital increased was USD 167 million.
3. 139 branches of FIEs were deregistered, including 11 corporate enterprises, 124 branches and 4 resident representative offices. 10 disqualified FIEs were re-registered as domestic enterprises.
III. Previous Years
By the end of May 2009, 4,707 FIEs had survived in Chongqing, including 1,474 foreign-invested corporate enterprises (662 EJVs, 52 CJVs, 749 WHOFEs and 11 joint-stock enterprises) with a total investment of USD 23,913 million and a total registered capital of USD 13,368 million, 2,885 branches, 342 resident representative offices and another 6 FIEs contracting business management.
