What are the Customs requirements for bringing pets into China?
Live animals brought into China are limited to dogs and cats (hereinafter referred to as “pets”). Each person may bring only one pet into China on each entry. Persons bringing pets into China shall provide Customs with a valid Quarantine Certificate and a Rabies Vaccination Certificate issued by the official animal quarantine authority of the exporting country or region. Pets shall be microchipped.
Pets brought into China shall undergo 30 days of quarantine at a Customs-designated quarantine facility, including any detention period. Pets subject to quarantine shall enter China through ports equipped with quarantine facilities. Customs supervises and inspects pets during quarantine. Customs applies categorized management to pets from designated and non-designated countries or regions. Pets meeting any of the following conditions are exempt from quarantine:
(1) Pets from designated countries or regions that are microchipped and pass on-site quarantine inspection;
(2) Pets from non-designated countries or regions that are microchipped, accompanied by a Rabies Antibody Test Report issued by a laboratory recognized by China Customs showing an antibody titer or immune antibody level of at least 0.5 IU/mL, and pass on-site quarantine inspection;
(3) Guide dogs, hearing dogs, or search-and-rescue dogs that are microchipped, accompanied by relevant User Certification and Professional Training Certification, and pass on-site quarantine inspection.
The lists of designated countries or regions, laboratories recognized by the Customs for rabies antibody testing, and ports equipped with quarantine facilities shall be subject to announcements issued by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China.
