Chongqing Vocational College of Public Transport is a full-time ordinary higher vocational college funded by Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group Co., Ltd., a key state-owned enterprise in Chongqing. It was approved by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government and registered with the Ministry of Education. The school is a transportation vocational college mainly supported by the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, the Chongqing Municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and the Chongqing Municipal Transportation Bureau, and it is the only vocational college in the city established by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government to implement the "Railway Employment and Poverty Alleviation" project.

The school is a high-quality vocational college in Chongqing, a construction and cultivation unit of high-level vocational schools in Chongqing, and two major groups of the school, namely Urban Rail Vehicle Application Technology and Automatic Railway Signal Control, have been selected as the construction project of high-level professional groups of vocational education in Chongqing. The school is the construction unit of the national high-skilled talents training base, the chairman unit of the Southwest Rail Transit Vocational Education Group, the construction unit of Chongqing's international characteristic project, a member of the China-ASEAN Vocational Education Federation, a governing unit of the China-ASEAN Rail Transit Education and Training Alliance, a vice-chairman unit of the China-Thailand Vocational Education Alliance, a governing unit of the China-Cambodia Vocational Education Cooperation Alliance, and hosts the Yangon Intelligent Transport Talent Training Base in Myanmar and the Thailand High-Speed Railway Technology International Student Training Base. It is also one of the first batch of "Craftsman Colleges" in Chongqing, the winner of Chongqing May Day Labor Award, a construction unit of Chongqing Modern Industry College, a Chongqing Enterprise New "Apprenticeship" Pilot High Vocational College and a national staff education and training demonstration site.

The school is located in Jiangjin Park of Western China (Chongqing) Science City. It has 6 secondary schools and 38 majors, including the Institute of Rail Transit, the Institute of Transport and Trade, the Institute of Intelligent Transport, the Institute of Intelligent Equipment, the Institute of Railway and Architecture, and the Institute of Public Management. It has built 2 national key majors, 1 national production and training base, 3 municipal key majors, and 3 municipal professional teaching resource banks recognized by the Ministry of Education. Three national professional teaching resource library projects were constructed, two "double-base" projects of Chongqing higher vocational education were approved, and 13 pilot projects of Chongqing 1+X certificate system were approved. At present, there are more than 12,000 full-time students, and more than 60% of the graduates are working in transportation industry enterprises and large state-owned enterprises.
