Chongqing University of Science and Technology (CQUST) is a full-time public undergraduate institution. The university has a strong focus on engineering and a balanced development in disciplines such as science, management, economics, law, humanities, and the arts. The university excels in fields such as oil and gas exploration and green development, as well as low-carbon metallurgy and advanced materials. In 2017, CQUST was authorized to confer master's degrees and in 2021, it received approval to establish doctoral degree programs, marking a new milestone in its growth as an application-oriented research university.

The university is located in the heart of the Western China (Chongqing) Science City. The campus boasts a beautiful environment and is well-equipped with comprehensive facilities for studying, living, cultural activities, and sports. The campus covers a total area of 1,694,700 square meters, with buildings occupying 732,500 square meters. The total value of teaching and research instrument and equipment approaches 680 million yuan. The library, covering an area of over 40,000 square meters, houses more than 2.1 million physical books and 2.04 million e-books, along with extensive digital information resources. The university has been recognized as a Chongqing Garden-Style Institution and is among the first batch of Chongqing Civilized Campus awardees.

CQUST has a faculty and staff team of over 1,700, including 660+ senior professionals and more than 730 doctorate holders. The university has a full-time student population of over 24,500, including over 2,400 master's degree candidates. The university comprises 22 schools (departments, institutes, and centers). There are also 21 secondary-discipline master's programs or professional degree areas. The university has 10 nationally recognized first-class undergraduate programs.

It has established partnerships with over 60 universities worldwide in teaching, research, and talent cultivation , including Edinburgh Napier University in the UK, University of Illinois at Chicago in the US, University of Regina in Canada, Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences in Finland, Hanze University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, University of Veracruz in Mexico, Kyungpook National University and Changwon National University in South Korea, as well as Chinese institutions such as Chongqing University, University of Science and Technology Beijing, China University of Petroleum, Southwest Petroleum University, Xi’an University of Science and Technology, and the Army Logistics Academy.
