Located along Nanbin Road, which is known as “the Bund of Chongqing,” the Landmark Riverside Danzishi Old Street is China’s first national 4A-level tourist attraction approved for “port-opening culture and the city’s nine-level sloping terrain.” The old street stretches for one kilometer, scaling nine distinct levels of slopes with a total elevation difference of about 80 meters. Visitors can walk their way uphill through the alleys and courtyards featuring eastern Sichuan architectural style, while enjoying views of scattered stilted building shops along the way.

Surrounded by mountains and rivers, the scenic area combines rich historical heritage with sightseeing, leisure, entertainment, and shopping. Its major attractions include the French Naval Barracks (a major historical and cultural site protected at the national level), Madame Tussauds Chongqing (the first of its kind in Southwest China), Landmark Riverside Ocean Park, Yide Hall, and the Wang’s Courtyard.

This is the only place in Chongqing where visitors can take in two rivers, three bridges, and three iconic landmarks all at once. At night, visitors can ascend the Viewing Platform for Confluence, which offers a 270-degree panoramic view, overlooking the entire Yuzhong Peninsula and Jiangbei area. Here, visitors can take in some of Chongqing’s finest night views, with the city seemingly unfolding before their eyes at a glance. In addition to its distinctive scenery, the old street is also home to numerous culinary offerings. Along the one-kilometer street, visitors are never more than a few steps away from a famous Chongqing delicacy or a nationally renowned restaurant. In addition, restobars offering prime river views also line the street. Today, Danzishi Old Street has become a top choice for locals seeking leisure and entertainment, and a must-visit destination for residents to take friends from outside Chongqing to experience the charm of the city.
