The Jiefangbei Night Culture and Tourism Consumption Agglomeration Zone is bounded by Xiaoshizi to the east, Hongyadong Scenic Area, Linjiang Road, and Minsheng Road to the north, Jintang Street to the west, and Heping Road and Xinhua Road to the south. The area features a complete range of nighttime economy sectors and diverse nighttime cultural and entertainment offerings. It brings together two municipal-level distinctive night market blocks, three municipal-level cultural demonstration parks, 35 cultural and entertainment venues, six five-star hotels, and 23 time-honored food brands. It is home to renowned cultural and tourism landmarks including the Liberation Monument, Hongyadong Scenic Area, and the Yangtze River Cableway. A variety of cultural and tourism consumption events, such as the Chongqing Night View Cultural Festival, weekend concerts, consumption festivals, and brand fashion launches, are held here throughout the year.

Hongyadong (Hongya Cave), formerly known as Hongya Gate, was one of the city gates of ancient Chongqing. Located on Cangbai Road in Jiefangbei CBD, Chongqing, at the riverside area where the Yangtze River and Jialing River converge, it is a tourist destination integrating sightseeing, tourism, leisure, and holiday experiences. Featuring traditional Chongqing-style architecture and folk customs, it has been rated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction. In 2006, it was built with a total investment of RMB385 million from the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government.

The Hongyadong Folk Custom Scenic Area is a large-scale, comprehensive tourist destination built around the traditional Chongqing-style stilted buildings. It integrates traditional folk culture, wharf culture, and the architectural culture of mountain residential dwellings. It features leisure tourism as its centerpiece, dining and entertainment as its main attractions, and trendy commercial offerings as a complement. Here, visitors can explore clusters of stilted buildings, admire the dripping greenery of the Hongya cliff, stroll through old mountain-city streets, experience Chongqing culture, enjoy Chongqing hotpot, view the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, savor cuisines from all around the world, and experience the charm of the city that never sleeps.

Built along the mountainside, Hongyadong is, architecturally speaking, a complex of stilted buildings constructed on a cliff. Throughout China, imitations of ancient architecture can be found everywhere, but such buildings are generally limited to five or six floors. Hongyadong, however, rises dramatically from a sheer cliff, forming a 13-story complex of stilted buildings. It has not only set a new precedent in the history of stilted buildings among ancient-style architecture but also pioneered a new approach to building on cliffs by making use of natural elevation differences. It is therefore known in the industry as “China’s Cliffside Building Complex” and has been described by Chinese and overseas media as a “Castle in the Sky” comparable to the setting of the Japanese animated film Spirited Away.
