Chongqing Bashan Lake National Wetland Park
Located in Chengkou County, Chongqing Bashan Lake National Wetland Park covers 1,116.3 hectares, including 587.8 hectares of wetlands—a wetland coverage rate of 52.7%. In January 2025, it was included in Chongqing’s second register of wetlands of municipal importance.
For 23 kilometers, forested mountains rise on either side of clear, unpolluted waters. The park provides habitat for wildlife under national or municipal protection, including mandarin ducks, red-billed leiothrixes and little grebes. It also safeguards rare and endemic fish of the upper Yangtze and the ecosystems on which they depend.
With its fresh air, tranquil waters and long mountain shoreline, Bashan Lake is well suited to sightseeing, outdoor exercise and environmental education. It also offers a compelling example of how ecological conservation can create lasting value for local communities.
