Chongqing Xiuhu National Wetland Park
Chongqing Xiuhu National Wetland Park covers 433.14 hectares, with wetlands accounting for 30.48% of its total area. Its name—literally “Beautiful Lake”—draws on the phrase “verdant mountains and a beautiful lake,” once used by the writer and historian Guo Moruo in praise of Bishan.
The park is shaped primarily by spring-fed streams and lake wetlands, complemented by shaded countryside, open farmland and bold geological formations. Natural habitats and cultural features come together to create a varied landscape with a character all its own.
At its urban heart, Xiuhu Park is organized around five themes: the pleasures of flowers, music, forests, stone and water. Its attractions include themed squares, a clock tower, a musical forest, a large laser-and-music fountain, waterside paths and cycling routes. Cultural landmarks such as Hanlin Academy, Tianzi Bridge and Water Street sit alongside a wetland science garden and an environmental education center.
By weaving restored wetlands into the life of the city, the park turns ecological education into an engaging, enjoyable experience.
