Chongqing Yinglong Lake National Wetland Park was formally designated by the former State Forestry Administration in 2017. It covers 364 hectares, including 123.31 hectares of wetlands.

At the heart of the park is Yinglong Lake Reservoir, whose many inlets and sheltered bays lie along the Changtang River near Yinglong Town, in the middle and lower reaches of the Yuxi River—a primary tributary of the Yangtze. Beyond its reservoir and pond wetlands, the park also contains terraced ponds and stream-valley wetlands, making it a representative wetland landscape of Chongqing’s hilly countryside.

The conservation and restoration zones cover 237 hectares, or 65% of the park, while the 127-hectare sustainable-use zone—including the inlet beside Wutang Village—accounts for the remaining 35%.

Development has so far focused on the eastern shore of Yinglong Lake. Along a scenic road winding through the surrounding hills, individual valleys and ridges have been shaped into a connected landscape, each with its own character and views.
