Chongqing Xiannvshan Airport is located in Xiannv Village, Xiannvshan Subdistrict, Wulong District, approximately 45 kilometers from downtown Wulong. It is an important component of Chongqing’s airport network and a major piece of tourism infrastructure for Wulong District. The airport was included in the State Council’s airport development program under the 13th Five-Year Plan for poverty alleviation and in the Civil Aviation Administration of China’s 2020 poverty-alleviation project acceptance program.

Construction of the airport’s pilot section began in April 2017. Designed as a domestic 4C regional airport, it is classified as a high-altitude airport at an elevation of 1,745.04 meters. Its principal facilities include: one runway measuring 2,800 meters by 45 meters; one perpendicular connecting taxiway; six Code C aircraft stands and four general aviation stands; a 6,000-square-meter terminal building; and approximately 9,000 square meters of supporting facilities for communications, meteorological services, air traffic management, firefighting and rescue, electricity, water supply and drainage, heating, gas supply, and aviation fuel. The airport can accommodate Code C aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.

In December 2020, Chongqing Xiannvshan Airport passed its industry acceptance inspection, obtained its civil airport operating license, and completed its inaugural flight preparations. Since beginning operations on March 28, 2021, the airport has successively introduced the following routes:

Shanghai-Wulong-Chengdu, operated by Spring Airlines;

Hangzhou-Wulong-Chengdu, operated by Loong Air;

Jinan-Wulong-Chengdu, operated by Shandong Airlines;

Beijing Daxing-Wulong-Foshan, operated by China United Airlines;

Guiyang-Wulong-Hefei and Xi’an-Wulong-Nanchang, operated by Tianjin Airlines;

Chongqing-Wulong, operated by China Express Airlines; and

Guangzhou-Wulong, operated by China Southern Airlines.

These services connect Wulong with cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Jinan, Chengdu, Foshan, Guiyang, Hefei, Xi’an, Nanchang, Chongqing, and Guangzhou.
