Chongqing Three Gorges Immigration Memorial / Chongqing Wanzhou Museum

Chongqing Three Gorges Immigration Memorial is located in Jiangnan New Area, Wanzhou District. It is the only specialized memorial museum in China dedicated to commemorating the relocation of over one million people for the Three Gorges Project. The museum is a national first-class museum, a national patriotism education base, one of China’s first research and practice education bases for primary and secondary school students, a pilot unit of the Chinese National Red Cultural Gene Bank, and a national AAAA tourist attraction.
The museum is situated with Cuiping Mountain behind and the Yangtze River in front. Its distinctive architecture, composed of sharply angled volumes, is designed to evoke the rocks along the riverbank of the Three Gorges.
Permanent exhibitions include:
A Great Undertaking, A Glorious Journey
Where Ten Thousand Rivers Meet: Wanzhou History and Culture
The Ancient Elephant of Yanjinggou
These exhibitions combine photographs, artifacts, multimedia displays, and immersive design to create a collective memory space of the Three Gorges relocation. They provide a panoramic view of the human and cultural landscape of the Three Gorges Reservoir area.
