Chongqing Natural History Museum

Chongqing Natural History Museum is a multidisciplinary museum dedicated to the study and presentation of natural science. Its origins trace back to the China Western Academy, founded by Lu Zuofu in 1930, and the China Western Museum, established in 1943 through a collaboration of more than ten national academic institutions.

Today, the museum is a national first-class museum, a national AAAA tourist attraction, a national science education base for land and resources, a national science education base, a national research and practice education base for primary and secondary school students, and a national science education base for ecology and environmental studies.

The museum comprises two sites: the new building, with a floor area of 30,842 square meters and an exhibition area of 16,252 square meters, and the historic site, the former China Western Academy, which is recognized as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level. The collection includes more than 110,000 objects.

The new museum hosts six permanent exhibitions, highlighting the relationships between natural resources, the environment, and human activity, while promoting harmony between people and nature and encouraging sustainable development. The historic site exhibits the early history of science and technology in western China, the development of science communication, and the relocation of scientific institutions to China’s interior during the Chinese Peoples War of ResistanceAgainst Japanese Aggression.

Opening Hours: 9:00–17:00, last entry at 16:00; closed on Mondays except public holidays
