Wansheng Black Valley Scenic Area

Wansheng Black Valley Scenic Area is a national 5A-rated tourist attraction located in Heishan Town, Wansheng Economic and Technological Development Zone, about 20 kilometers from downtown Wansheng. The scenic area extends for 13 kilometers and is known for its rich variety of landscapes, including “one island, three valleys, five gorges, seven scenic zones, twelve peaks, thirty-six bridges, ninety-nine waterfalls, and one hundred and eight pools.”

The landscape brings together mountains, rivers, springs, forests, and caves, with a distinctive combination of unusual rock formations, dramatic terrain, steep cliffs, elegant scenery, and secluded valleys. The area is especially known for its waterfalls, floating walkways, and the great Chongqing-Guizhou rift valley. With high mountains, dense forests, crisscrossing streams, and relatively little human disturbance, Black Valley preserves one of the few well-conserved subtropical and temperate natural ecosystems at this latitude.

The forest coverage rate in the valley reaches 97%. The area is home to a wide range of rare plants and animals, represented by the François’ langur and the dove tree. More than 1,800 plant species and over 300 vertebrate species have been recorded here, earning Black Valley the name “Chongqing-Guizhou Biological Gene Bank.” The concentration of negative oxygen ions in the valley can reach more than 110,000 per cubic centimeter, and the air cleanliness exceeds China’s Grade I national standard, making the valley a vast natural oxygen bar.

With lush greenery stretching for miles and oxygen-rich air filling the valley, Black Valley has been praised as “China’s most beautiful wellness gorge.” It has also been selected several times as one of the “Twelve Scenic Wonders of Chongqing.”
