The Chongqing Municipal Administration of Sports performs the following responsibilities:

1. Implement the national policies, laws, regulations, and rules governing sports; and conduct research and draft local regulations and government rules related to sports.

2. Study strategies for sports development across the municipality; and formulate plans and policies for the development of sports undertakings throughout the municipality, and organize their implementation and supervision.

Coordinate regional sports development; promote the development of a diversified sports service system; and advance public sports services, and deepen reform of the sports system.

3. Coordinate and plan the development of mass sports throughout the municipality; promote the public fitness program; provide professional guidance and administration for municipal-level sports associations; and organize relevant work of the Chongqing Sports Federation.

4. Coordinate and plan the development of competitive sports throughout the municipality, and plan the establishment and distribution of sports events; guide and coordinate sports training and competitions; and guide the development of athletic teams.

5. Coordinate and plan the development of youth sports throughout the municipality; and guide and advance youth sports programs.

6. Formulate plans and policies for the development of the sports industry throughout the municipality; accelerate the development of the sports industry; cultivate the sports market; regulate sports service management; promote sports standardization; and be responsible for the administration of sports lotteries.

7. Guide and organize sports publicity and foreign affairs work.

Carry out sports exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan; and other countries and regions.

8. Organize scientific research, technological innovation, and the promotion of research achievements in the sports sector; guide and coordinate athletes’ cultural education and social security work; and organize, coordinate, and supervise anti-doping efforts in sports.

9. Be responsible for sports statistics throughout the municipality; and guide the construction of public sports facilities, and supervise their administration.

10. Be responsible for Party building work in the Administration, its directly affiliated entities, and social organizations in the sports sector.

11. Undertake other tasks assigned by the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government.
