Work-Study Conditions
Where a foreigner holding a residence permit for study intends to engage in off-campus work-study or internship, he or she shall, upon the approval of the school, apply to the exit and entry administration authority of the public security organ to have such information as the location and duration of the work-study program or internship placement specified in his or her residence permit. A foreigner holding a residence permit for study shall not engage in any off-campus work-study or internship unless the information prescribed in the preceding paragraph is specified in his or her residence permit.

According to relevant regulations, foreign applicants for work-study programs in China must meet the following basic conditions:
(1) They shall be at least 18 years old and meet the physical requirements for work-study positions;
(2) They shall hold a valid residence permit for students in China with a remaining valid residence period of more than six months;
(3) They shall abide by Chinese laws and regulations and school rules and regulations, have good conduct and performance, and have no criminal record or violation of regulations or disciplines;
(4) They are undergraduate students/short-cycle higher education students, postgraduate students, students seeking advanced training, or research scholars who have studied in the current school for more than one year;
(5) Their academic progress and attendance rate meet school requirements.
Furthermore, international students may only conduct work-study activities within the prefecture-level municipal jurisdiction of their host institution. The permitted working hours are strictly capped at 8 weekly/40 monthly hours during semesters; 16 weekly/80 monthly hours during vacations. Each work-study permit's validity shall not surpass either the student's residence permit duration or a maximum of 12 months.

According to Article 11 of the Regulations on Work-Study of International Students in Higher Education Institutions:
International students engaging in off-campus work-study must, within 10 days, submit an employment agreement, school certification letter, and supporting documents to the local Public Security Bureau's Exit-Entry Administration department to obtain a residence permit endorsement specifying the employer's details and authorized work period. Holding a residence permit without such endorsement prohibits participation in off-campus work-study activities.
International students who need to change their off-campus work-study employer or duration must, within 10 days, submit a new employment agreement and school certification letter to the local Public Security Bureau's Exit-Entry Administration department to apply for an update to their residence permit endorsement.
International students who terminate their off-campus work-study activities due to employer-initiated agreement termination or other circumstances must, within 10 days, submit a formal written notice to their host institution and complete the required endorsement updates with the local Public Security Bureau's Exit-Entry Administration department.
