Zhuoshui Scenic Area is located in Zhuoshui Town, Qianjiang District, Chongqing. It consists of three main parts: Zhuoshui Ancient Town, Puhua River Leisure Agriculture Experience Park, and Puhua Underground River. The scenic area is rich in tourism resources and has a strong ethnic character. From the idea of “heavenly principle and human conscience” to the image of “the eye of heaven,” Zhuoshui reflects a deep respect for nature, morality, and the order of the world.

At the heart of the scenic area is Zhuoshui Ancient Town. Originating in the late Tang dynasty (618–907) and flourishing during the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368–1911), the town has accumulated rich cultural depth over a long history. Its traditional street layout remains largely intact, making it one of the best-known ancient towns in southeastern Chongqing.

Puhua Underground River features striking karst landscapes. The natural formation known as “the Eye of Heaven,” created by a group of large sinkholes, together with the “Three Natural Bridges over Water” and the scene known as “Three Bridges in One View,” reveals the extraordinary craftsmanship of nature. Between the thousand-year-old Zhuoshui Ancient Town and the ancient Puhua Underground River, Puhua Ecological Agriculture Park unfolds like a green ribbon. With flowers, fruits, and scenery throughout the year, it presents the beauty of the countryside in a poetic landscape.

Another landmark is the Wind and Rain Bridge, 658 meters long and known as the “world’s longest wind-and-rain bridge.” It spans the Apeng River, famous for its long reverse-flowing section, and has received the China Lighting Engineering Design Award as well as recognition as one of Chongqing’s “Top Ten Landmark Icons.”

Thanks to its deep cultural history and impressive scenery, Zhuoshui Scenic Area has received titles such as National Famous Historical and Cultural Town, Chinese Charm Cultural Scenic Area, and Ancient Town of Chinese Couplet Culture. Zhuoshui is also the permanent venue for the China Tujia Literature Award, and the large-scale ethnic song-and-dance poetic drama The Ballad of Zhuoshui has been performed in Beijing and abroad.

During its campaign to become a national 5A-rated tourist attraction, Zhuoshui Scenic Area benchmarked itself against 5A standards and developed 33 key projects with careful planning and craftsmanship, completing an investment of RMB 1.06 billion. Ninety percent of these projects were completed in less than one year. The 5A campaign brought visible improvements to the scenic area, while Zhuoshui also became a catalyst for all-for-one tourism development, helping drive rapid growth in Qianjiang’s development as a major tourism district.
