Located on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in central Chongqing, the Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge connects Wulidian in the former Jiangbei District (now part of Liangjiang New Area) with Danzishi in Nan’an District. It is an important link between the two districts and carries both road and rail traffic and serves as one of the principal Yangtze River crossings on Chongqing Rail Transit’s Loop Line. The bridge has a main span of 552 meters and a total length of 1,741 meters, or 4,881 meters when its approach bridges are included. Its main structure is the world’s longest-span steel-truss arch bridge. It was the eighth major river-crossing bridge built in central Chongqing. The project was undertaken by Chongqing City Construction Investment Corporation and designed by China Merchants Communications Technology (Chongqing) Limited. Construction began in 2004, and the bridge opened in 2009. In January 2019, the China Construction Industry Association named it one of the “100 Classic Projects of the 40 Years of Reform and Opening Up.”
