Egongyan Rail Transit Bridge

The Egongyan Rail Transit Bridge is a key control engineering project on the southern section of Chongqing Rail Transit’s Loop Line. Located approximately 45 meters upstream of the Egongyan Yangtze River Bridge, it provides an important link between Nan’an and Jiulongpo districts. The bridge is a five-span, continuous steel-box-girder, self-anchored suspension bridge with a main span of 600 meters—the longest of any self-anchored suspension bridge in the world.
Its construction involved an innovative structural conversion method in which the bridge initially functioned as a cable-stayed structure before being converted into a suspension bridge. This was the first application of the technique in China and required highly complex construction processes and advanced engineering expertise. Construction began in 2014, and the bridge opened to traffic at the end of 2019.
