The Yangtze River Cableway officially opened on October 24, 1987. As the first aerial passenger crossing over the Yangtze River, it has operated safely for more than three decades. Day after day, year after year, its cable cars have traveled from one bank to the other, becoming woven into Chongqing’s history, landscape, culture, and collective memory. More than simply a means of transportation, the cableway has become a witness to the city’s transformation—a familiar presence above the Mountain City, like a classic song that has played on for decades.

A ride on the cableway offers visitors a window into Chongqing across generations. Suspended above the river, passengers can experience the city’s distinctive blend of history and modern urban life, taking home a uniquely Chongqing memory.

Today, the Yangtze River Cableway is a national 4A-rated tourist attraction, an aerial sightseeing destination in central Chongqing, and a protected cultural heritage site of the municipality. From above, visitors can take in many of the qualities for which Chongqing is famous: its bridges, mist, rivers, mountains, and glittering nightscape. Mountains and waterways merge with the city, while natural scenery and urban life unfold together in a striking three-dimensional panorama. In spring and summer, sunlight washes across the Yuzhong Peninsula as the cable cars glide high above the river between mountain slopes. After autumn and winter rains, mist drifts through the city, lending the journey an almost dreamlike quality. When night falls and the skyline lights up, the cableway offers a spectacular view over Chongqing’s rivers and sea of city lights. As the skyline shifts continuously during the ride, the experience can feel like watching the city unfold in a dynamic 8D movie.

The attraction receives more than 4 million visits annually.

Off-season (November 1-the end of February): 7:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m.

On national public holidays, service ends at 10:30 p.m.

On the north bank, Xiaoshizi Station on Chongqing Rail Transit Lines 1 and 6 is approximately 20 meters from the attraction via Exit 5B.

Bus:

Take bus T002, T480, 881, or 0491 to Xiaoshizi Station. On the south bank, Tourist Bus T026 stops at Yangtze River Cableway Station.
