Changpu Grassland Draws Summer Visitors to Youyang

Time:2026-08-03

Changpu Grassland has welcomed a steady stream of visitors from downtown Chongqing, Hunan, Hubei, and elsewhere in recent days. Its meadow trails, campsites, and alpine lakes have all been bustling with summer travelers.

Located in the Wuling Mountains at an average elevation of 1,400 meters, Changpu Grassland has an average summer temperature of 22°C, making it a popular escape from the heat. Across its expansive meadows, vehicles are parked in designated areas, and tents dot the campsites. Visitors stroll through the countryside, take photographs and enjoy the cool weather and natural surroundings.

“It is much hotter in downtown Chongqing, but the weather here is wonderfully cool,” said Liu, a visitor who drove to the grassland with friends for a camping trip.

The open grasslands, tranquil alpine lake, and rolling fields of flowers encourage visitors to slow down and stay awhile. Scenic drives, picnics beneath sun shelters, and aerial photography are among the most popular activities, filling the area with the relaxed energy of a summer retreat.

According to scenic-area staff, visitor numbers have risen steadily since the beginning of July, particularly on weekends. Additional security, cleaning, and visitor-support personnel have been deployed, while routes through the area have been improved, and traffic management and emergency services strengthened.Visitors are also being encouraged through online channels to travel outside peak periods, camp responsibly, and help protect the fragile alpine grassland ecosystem.

With its distinctive karst plateau landscape, Changpu Grassland has undergone years of ecological restoration, transforming once-rocky and degraded hillsides into lush grassland. The area is continuing to develop alpine camping, grassland sightseeing, and stargazing holidays, bringing new momentum to summer tourism in southeastern Chongqing and supporting the continued growth of Youyang’s cultural and tourism sector.
